FARMINGTON — The Franklin Memorial Hospital Auxiliary has purchased two custom made desks built by W.A. Mitchell Fine Furniture to be used by volunteers staffing the information desks in the Franklin Memorial Hospital lobby and in the Franklin Health Medical Arts Center lobby, also on the FMH campus.

According to Jodi Cordes, employee and volunteer services administrator, the need for better desks at both locations was identified a couple years ago and she has worked with Dan Maxham of W.A. Mitchell on the design for months. In March, she approached the Auxiliary with a proposal identifying the need along with a design prototype, which the charitable group later agreed to purchase.

The first desk was delivered to FMH on April 9 and the second desk soon will be delivered to the medical arts center.

Auxiliary member Shannon Smith said many of the patients coming in have commented on the handsome new desk. She added, “We’re so glad to be able to give back to the hospital because of our successful fundraising. It’s a very rewarding feeling for our members.”

The Auxiliary plans activities and special events that raise thousands of dollars annually to support the hospital. The hospital’s gift shop is the Auxiliary’s major fundraiser in its mission to provide financial support for the hospital for special projects and equipment. The Auxiliary also raises money by way of membership dues, memorial stones in the healing garden, raffles, uniform and shoe sales, special events, the Remembrance Tree and more.

New Auxiliary members are always welcome. If interested contact President Les Gatchell at 897-5509.

Volunteers are additionally welcome to provide support and assistance to patients, visitors and staff. If interested contact Cordes at 779-2635 or jcordes@fchn.org.
