HEBRON — Five contemporary a cappella groups will perform at 7 p.m. Saturday, May 4, in the Hebron Academy auditorium as part of the fifth annual “Joining Voices” concert presented by the Edward Little High School music department and hosted this year by the Hebron Academy HeBGB’s.
Performing at this a cappella concert will be the HeBGB’s of Hebron Academy, the Lewiston High School Jazz Choir, Vocal ELoquence of Edward Little High School, the Mt. Blue Voices of Farmington, and TakeNote of Bates College.
The “Joining Voices” concert was originated by Richard Rau, who is the co-director of “Vocal ELoquence.” He was a member of the a cappella quartet, “Top Forty” for many years, performing a cappella standards, doo-wop, pop, and jazz. He has been involved for almost 20 years with the annual a cappella concert, “Battle of the Blends.” He said, “It is becoming the norm for high schools to have an a cappella chorus.”
Dennis Hayes, director of The Mt. Blue Voices, looks at this concert as a great opportunity for student singers to hear and interact with young musicians from other schools who are interested in performing the same style of vocal music. He said, “Coming from rural west central Maine we do not very often get the chance to hear other school a cappella ensembles. The Mt. Blue Voices have participated in all of the previous ‘Joining Voices’ concerts and the event has always been a highlight of the school year.”
Admission to this event is by donation to the Good Shepherd Food Bank.
