KITTERY — A Maine woman says a blue duffel bag that prompted a bomb scare in Kittery contained dirty laundry.

The Maine state police bomb squad was en route to Kittery to investigate the suspicious bag Friday afternoon when Chrystal Ryan of Portland came forward to claim it.

Ryan told the Portsmouth Herald she left the bag at a bus stop after she forgot something and rushed back to her hotel room to retrieve it.

She says it contained dirty laundry and that she’s embarrassed to have caused a ruckus.

The blue duffel bag was discovered alongside a road near John Paul Jones Park. Part of Route 1 and Government Street were blocked off, along with the park.
