Recycling at Transfer Station

ANDOVER — Andover residents should bring their old TVs, computer monitors and florescent bulbs to the Transfer Station this weekend as there will be a pick up at noon Tuesday, May 7. Don’t forget to bring your punch pass when you drop off.

Grange holding seed giveaway

RUMFORD — The Rumford Grange will give out free seeds donated by seed packing companies from 9 a.m. to noon Saturday, May 4.

The grange will hold an open house at 1 p.m. Saturday, May 18, at the Grange Hall. Activities will include the annual Community Service Award, displays of grange events and the sale of raffle tickets to be drawn in November.

Conversations for cancer caregivers

RUMFORD — The Patrick Dempsey Center for Cancer Hope & Healing will offer a free workshop for cancer caregivers. “When Time is Precious: Conversations for Family Caregivers” will take place from 6 to 7 p.m. Wednesday, May 15, at Rumford Hospital, conference room C.

Kerry Irish, licensed clinical social worker, will present a workshop for loved ones of people living with advanced cancer who are longing to deepen their connections to their ill loved one through meaningful conversation. Learn how reminiscence, life review and legacy activities can support emotional and spiritual healing and growth while enhancing relationships when time is precious.

Library program on black bears

RUMFORD — A presentation on “Black Bears: Dispelling the Myths for Peaceful Coexistence” will be given at 6:30 p.m. Thursday, May 9, at the Rumford Public Library.

Guest speaker Sara Wright is a naturalist and a writer who has spent much of her life observing and writing about animals in the wild.

She wrote her Ph.D. dissertation on the behavior patterns of the black bear and has been doing research on one black bear kinship group for 14 years.

The event is sponsored by the Friends of the Rumford Public library.

Hope craft fair, indoor lawn sale

RUMFORD — A spring craft fair and indoor lawn sale will be held from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. Saturday, May 11, at Hope Association Adult Activity Center, 85 Lincoln Ave.

There will be raffles, a Chinese auction, cookie walk, crafts, food and jewelry. Activities for children include games, prizes and face painting.

The Snake Man will visit in a separate room.

Briar Patch will be open from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. Children 12 and under can get a free potted or planted flower for mom while supplies last.

The What Not Shop will be open from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. Fill a bag of clothing for $5. A hot dog lunch will be on sale for $4.

A car wash will be held weather permitting. The cost is $4.
