Half-price indoor yard sale May 11
MONMOUTH — The half-price indoor yard sale will be held from 9 a.m. to noon Saturday, May 11, at East Monmouth Church Vestry and Basement, Route 135.
The sale will feature a variety of household items, furniture, dishes, children’s items, books, collectibles, a wide assortment of jewelery, puzzles and games, and miscellanea all in clean, working condition.
Special items include a school desk, antique chairs, many pierced earrings, floor rugs, lamps, rug braiding wool/equipment, vintage quilts, inflatable boat, new freestanding basketball hoop, motorcycle seats and bags and more.
Old-time dance set for May 11
SABATTUS — A live, old-time dance with ’50s and ’60s music and line dancing will be held from 7 to 10 p.m. Saturday, May 11, at American Legion Hall, 40 Island Road. Cost is $5. For information call 782-6228.
Burnt Meadow DAR to meet
SABATTUS — Burnt Meadow Chapter, National Society of the Daughters of the American Revolution will gather at the home of Mrs. Marjorie Prince on Sutherland Pond Road at 1:30 p.m. Saturday, May 11, to hear Rev. Howard H. MacMullen speak on “The First Memorial Day.”
Prince received her 65 year membership certificate from the National Society of the Daughters of the American Revolution on April 13, and a 64 year certificate from the Maine State DAR dated in March. Prince’s mother, Amanda, was instrumental in starting the Burnt Meadow Chapter on April 17, 1948.
Any woman who believes she is related to a patriot and wishes to join the DAR may call Violet Gerber at 375-2698 to inquire about the process. Please leave a message.
Golden Age Club to meet May 14
AUBURN — The next meeting of the Immaculate Heart of Mary Parish – Golden Age Club will be Tuesday, May 14, at The Village Inn Restaurant.
The restaurant opens at 11 a.m. Lunch will be ordered from the menu at noon. Individual checks will include tax and gratuity.
The restaurant needs to know how many are coming, so call 576-4082 to make a reservation. New members and guests are welcome.
Discrimination documentary
LEWISTON — The Lewiston Library will show the documentary “Education Under Fire” at 6 p.m. Tuesday, May 14, in the Lewiston Library at Callahan hall, 200 Lisbon St. The documentary will be followed by a conversation on the themes of religious discrimination and the right to public education which the film addresses. The event is free and open to everyone.
The 30-minute documentary, which has been endorsed by Amnesty International, deals with the Iranian government’s denial of the right to higher education for the past 30 years for all of the members of its largest non-Muslim religious minority, the Baha’is.

Block party at Pettingill School
LEWISTON — A “Block Party” will be held at 6 p.m. Wednesday, May 15, at 409 College St., on the grounds of the former Pettingill Elementary School. The rain date is Thursday, May 16.
Special guests will include Lewiston Mayor Bob Macdonald, State Rep. Peggy Rotundo, State Sen. Margaret Craven and Lewiston School Committee Chairman Jim Handy. The host will be Dr. Ted Walworth, and MC Nick Knowlton.
This will be a chance to meet neighbors and hear about the project to turn the school property into a two-acre park and playground.
Volunteer students from the Bates College STA/RT program, led by Dr. Laura Sewall, will also be on hand.

‘Mystery Night’ at History Barn
NEW GLOUCESTER — Members, friends and the general public are invited to a free “Mystery Night” at the New Gloucester History Barn, Intervale Road, behind the Town Hall, at 7 p.m. Thursday, May 16.
The evening will be dedicated to identifying collection items that remain a “mystery” — tools, photos, maps, gizmos, etc. Sponsored by the New Gloucester Historical Society.
