A native of Bath, Callan Rogers grew up with her parents and three siblings, writing stories by the age of eight. By trade Callan Rogers is a librarian, journalist, actress, editor and teacher. She earned a bachelor’s degree in English and a master’s of fine arts in creative writing from the University of Southern Maine.

“This event marks the three year anniversary of the Bailey Library Lakes Region Forum, and we’ve tried to offer a wide variety of speakers and topics, including history, art, biography, and novelists,” said Richard Fortin, Bailey’s director, who organizes the monthly series.

Callan Rogers will provide a glimpse into how a first-time novelist went from writing student to bestselling author. Her coming-of-age story of perseverance has been described as “superb” and “deeply moving” by the prestigious Kirkus Reviews.

“Red Ruby Heart in a Cold Blue Sea” was first published in Germany, where it won a Reader’s Choice award in general literature. The novel presents a snapshot of a bygone America through the eyes of an inspiring girl blazing her own path to womanhood. Callan Rogers currently splits her time between Maine and South Dakota.
