FARMINGTON — Residents in the RSU 9 district can once again “flock” a friend for a minimal charge that helps students in the school’s music program.

A flock of 10 pink flamingos can mysteriously appear on someone’s lawn for a donation of $15 to the Mt. Blue Music Boosters, Holly Rice said.

“We come in the dark and plant them on a person’s lawn where they stay for 24 hours. We also take them out in the dark, and we do not tell,” she said.

Orders for the five flocks of 10 plastic birds will be taken through May 18.

This is the third year the group of parents have offered the spring welcome while raising funds to help with scholarships to summer music camps or for private lessons, she said. The funds are also used to help pay a portion of the cost for young musicians who try out for all-state in band, orchestra or voice and to help fund those who make all-state so they may attend the event.

The music boosters also purchase good used instruments for children whose families can’t afford them and help with the costs for instrument repair, she added.

Sneaking around in the dark has been a challenge but one the group enjoys, Rice said.

Anyone interested in having a flock appear on someone’s lawn within the RSU 9 towns can place an order by calling Rice at 778-4271 and leave a message.
