After a day’s search thru the suburbs of Lewiston in an effort to locate hides of the rumsellers, Sam Stewart and Benjamin Pare of Sheriff Stevens’ liquor squad found three barrels of whiskey in an empty barn on the Webster Road in Lewiston late Thursday afternoon. Two of the barrels were full and one had lost half of its contents. There was also a barrel of cider. The deputies do not know who owned the contraband, but they know who owns it now — the State. This seizure closed a long hunt in the outskirts of the city. The deputies feel sure that quite a little contraband is stored in the country and is brought in small quantities into the city at night in teams and autos.

(Photo Caption) OLD KENMORE GOES DOWN, NOTHING NEW PLANNED — Auburn’s Kenmore Hotel, several damaged by a three-alarm blaze on Nov. 16 of last year, is being demolished and there’ll be nothing erected in its place, not for the time being, at any rate. Owner H.J. Garon of Portland recently said the lot will remain vacant. He was ordered by Auburn City Building Inspector Joseph J. Gosselin to tear down the building. In charge of the work is Kenneth Edwards of Auburn.
