The entire population of Lewiston and Auburn could be placed on the second floor of the new Bates weave shed (known in 2013 as Bates Mill #5) and not a person be crowded. Each man, woman and child would have four square feet of space in which to move about. Rather a surprising statement, but easily borne out by the facts. The estimated population of the two cities is 42,000, while the floor space of the new shed will be 172,000 on four and a quarter acres. It is estimated by the engineers that every square foot of the floor will sustain 1,000 pounds.

We refer, of course, to the banquet honoring Magnus C. Hansen, retiring general secretary of the Auburn-Lewiston YMCA. Perhaps one of the most adequate tributes which can be placed as a laurel wreath on the forehead of Magnus Hansen is to assert that in the Young Men’s Christian Association he so able served, Magnus constantly exemplified the meaning of the word “Christian.”

The committee will recommend to the city councils in Lewiston and Auburn that each city donate $25,368 to Hudson’s public transit system. “We certainly would not want to go without a public transportation system in Lewiston-Auburn, said the committee’s chairman, Richard T. Metivier, who also is Lewiston’s finance director.
