STRONG — Black Dog Café owners Steve Heath, his son, Eric, and daughter-in-law, Barbara, have one last step to take before getting a license to serve customers beer or wine with their meals.

Business is booming, Eric Heath said, and takeout orders keep them busy Wednesday through Sunday. The café must have a license to serve alcohol on premises, so the owners gathered signatures and presented a petition selectmen. The board conducted a public hearing on the matter April 23.

The final step is a vote of the town from 2 to 6 p.m. Monday, May 13, at the Forster Memorial Building.

“We have received nothing but positive input,” Eric said. “We really appreciate the support we’ve received.”

Still, he said, they must follow Maine’s liquor licensing laws before they are granted their permit. Serving on restaurant premises is not the same as purchasing that beer or wine in a retail store, he explained.
