AUBURN — A 35-minute video explaining what Common Core is and how it will change the local education system forever will be shown at 10 a.m. Saturday, May 18, at the Auburn Public Library Community Room.
This educational presentation explains the origins and goals of Common Core and why we should oppose it.
May Faire May 18 in Monmouth
MONMOUTH — The annual May Faire will take place from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. Saturday, May 18, at Cumston Hall.
There will be annuals and perennials from local gardens, vegetable and herb seedlings, “Cream of the Crop” and manure.
Available food will include lobster rolls, hamburgers, hot dogs and a bake sale.
There will also be a book sale, DVDs, local artists show and sale, raffles, vendors, an ambulance visit and kids activities.
The fair is sponsored by Friends Of Cumston Library to benefit library projects. All events’ places are subject to the weather.
Cooking classes at The Ark
LEWISTON — The following free classes will take place at The Ark, 791 Lisbon St.
Cheryl Farley will teach vegan cooking at 6 p.m. Wednesday, May 22.
An herb class with a spa night theme will be held at 5:30 p.m. Tuesday, May 28.

Roast turkey at Odd Fellows
LISBON — A roast turkey dinner will be held from 5:30 to 6:30 p.m. Friday, May 24, at the Odd Fellows Hall, 27 Village St.
Cost is $7 for adults, $3.50 for children 12 and under and free for preschoolers.
The dinner is hosted by Nina Rebekah Lodge No. 86 and Sabattus River Lodge No. 21.
Wayne Farmers’ Market to open
WAYNE — Wayne Farmers’ Market will open for the fifth season on Saturday, May 25, on the green next to the Post Office.
Support local farmers and agriculture from 9 a.m. to noon Saturdays from Memorial Day weekend through Aug. 31.
Shop locally for vegetables, herbs, meat, perennials, baked goods, goat’s milk soap, blueberries, eggs, pesto, wool and cut flowers.
The annual Wayne Farmers’ Market Celebration will be held on July 6. Chris Cushman and Friends will perform and there will be children’s activities.
New this year, the market will provide Electronic Benefit Transfer services. The EBT program will allow shoppers to purchase local food with Supplemental Nutrition Assistant benefits. SNAP customers will receive bonus market bucks, $2.50 for every $10, each time they shop at the market.

Free skate night is May 26
TOPSHAM — Grace Community Chapel will host its last skate night until the fall from 5:30 to 8:30 p.m. Sunday, May 26, at Roller World, 20 Atwood Drive.
To celebrate, skating is free and will be for three hours instead of two this month.
