A dozen men were at work this week setting out trees on the land owned by the True brothers, Dr. E.C. True and J.R. True, of Auburn on the south shore of Lake Auburn. These trees include 5,000 young pines and a number of English walnut and other trees. Between 10 and 15 acres of land are being planted with trees. “Your mail box reflects your personality, and it is the front door to your home,” Lewiston Postmaster Roger Albert said, in urging Lewiston rural residents to improve or repair their mail boxes during the coming week designated by the U.S. Post Office Department as “Rural Mail Box Improvement Week.” Albert said the past winter has been hard on rural boxes due to snowplowing operations and heavy frost, which has resulted, in some cases, in the boxes being knocked down. “People put up all sort of things … cigar boxes, oil cans, nail kegs, cheese boxes, coffee tins,” Albert said, adding that some are put up in odd places where they are not immediately visible and easily accessible to the carrier.

Lewiston city councilors approved increases in parking fees and penalties Tuesday, a move which city officials say will generate an additional $40,000 annual to fund municipal parking facilities. Drivers whose cars block snow removal operations can expect to pay $15. The fine for parking in a space reserved for the disabled is now $25, up from $15. Fines for overtime parking were raised from $1 to $2, and $6 if not paid within three days.
