I cannot afford cable television; I have just the regular television stations. When the Public Broadcasting System started televising the proceedings in the Maine Legislature, I wanted to see how the government actually worked.

It was boring. It was so slow, and so much talking. The laws that legislators produce (for example, during the coldest day of winter, landlords have a right to block the heat in a tenant’s apartment) forget about those who are ill and need a continuous flow of heat to survive.

Now, government officials want to cut sodas and candy for food stamp recipients. Why not cut cereals/ice cream/puddings or snack cakes? Government officials want to save taxpayers’ money. After watching the Legislature in action on television, we all should be crying.

It is time to cut the number of people elected to run the government. Maybe with fewer yappers common sense would return, making life less complicated for the rest of the people.
