100 years ago, 1913
Saturday afternoon the Lafayette Hackett farm on South River Road, Auburn, that was owned by Harry Manser was sold at auction. The buyer was W.H. Litchfield of Auburn. The price paid was $2,000. The auctioneer was F.L. McGibbon and it was his first attempt as such a salesman and he certainly did a good job. Old timers at auctions say goods sold at this auction went for a higher price than at any auction they ever attended.

50 years ago, 1963
(Photo caption) The long-panel truck pictured here has been obtained by the Auburn Police Athletic League to provide transportation for young baseball teams during the summer program. In former years, the youngsters were transported by private cars but PAL directors decided that as a safety feature a bus should be obtained. The truck was purchased at a reasonable cost and the lettering on it was done by Earl Hall, a member of the Auburn reserve police unit.

25 years ago, 1988
Auburn’s Veterans of Foreign Wars Captain Frank W. Hulett Post will begin Memorial Day ceremonies at 6 a.m. Monday with services at the Danville Cemetery, Post Commander Thomas Whirley said members will give a rifle salute by firing squad and commemorate the city’s war dead at eight cemeteries before a final ceremony at the Court Street war memorial. Following the annual parade through downtown Lewiston and Auburn, the post will hold an open house at their Minot Avenue headquarters and will send representatives to the Veterans’ Cemetery in Augusta for afternoon services.
