AUGUSTA — Allen Stinson Glidden, 83, of Lisbon, passed away peacefully on Tuesday, May 28, at the Veterans’ Hospice Palliative Care Unit at the Togus Hospital. He was the beloved husband of 35 years to Joanna M. (Albert) Glidden.
He was born in Rockland, Sept. 23, 1929, son of the late Harold and Marjorie (Sawyer) Glidden of Manchester, N.H. He was a 1947 graduate of Thornton Academy in Saco and a 1951 graduate of the University of Maine at Orono. He served in the U.S. Air Force as a tactical instructor at Sampson Air Force Base, Geneva, N.Y., during the Korean Conflict.
He worked in a variety of roles in the poultry industry, including 40 years as a hatchery manager for four leading poultry companies in Maine, California and Georgia. He retired in 1998 after which he was able to devote more time to his beloved church family at South Lewiston Baptist Church. Pastor Brian Church said of him “We are so thankful for Al’s life and testimony, for his smile and love for people and for his earnest example in being an ambassador for Christ. Our church and many of us personally have been changed because of these marks of his life.”
Along with his loving wife, Allen is survived by his sons, Kenneth and his wife, Patricia, of Boston, and Daniel and his wife, Kerry, of Westford, Mass.; his daughter, Marcia and her husband, Timothy Sweeney, of Pembroke, N.H.; his 10 grandchildren, Jessica, Michael, Jeffrey, David, Andrew, Elise, Caitlyn, Jonathan, Matthew and Benjamin; and his sister, Virginia and her husband, Ralph Zabriskie of Orlando, Fla.
