Old-fashioned dances Saturdays

SOUTH PARIS — The Jones Dance Band will play old-fashioned dance music from 7 to 10 p.m. every Saturday in June starting June 1 at the American Legion Hall, 12 Church St. Cost is $5.

Socrates Cafe gathering

WATERFORD — A Socrates Cafe gathering will be held from 6:30 to 8:30 p.m. Monday, June 3, at the Waterford Library.

Meetings are held on the first Monday of each month. The group offers a forum to discuss current topics and ideas in a warm, friendly atmosphere, where divergent views will be welcome.

Coffee and light refreshments will be served.

The topic for the June meeting will be “Environmental Dangers Facing Maine: What Can We Do To Protect The State?” The moderator will be Connie Allen.

SUMNER — Sumner Food Bank will be open from 9 a.m. to noon Monday, June 3, at the Congregational Church of East Sumner, 50 Main St. It is open the first and third Mondays of each month. For more information call 388-2610.

WEST PARIS — The Neighborhood Niche Food Pantry will be open from 1 to 3 p.m. Tuesday, June 4, at West Paris Baptist Church, 15 Church St. The pantry is open the first and third Tuesday of each month. West Paris residents are invited to come once a month.

Spurrs Corner food pantry hours

OTISFIELD — The food pantry at Spurrs Corner Church, Route 121, will be open Tuesday, June 4, from 10 a.m. to noon.

Knitting Guild meets June 4

PARIS — The Western Maine Knitting Guild will meet on Tuesday, June 4, at Eleanor Heidrick’s home, 434 Main St., Oxford.

Those wishing to carpool can meet at 10 a.m. at the First Congregational Church, East Main Street.

A business meeting will be followed by a potluck luncheon and a knitting bee. Bring something to knit on or your knitting problems.

New members are always invited to attend meetings.

eBooks, eReaders, tablets discussion

PARIS — The Paris Public Library will host another eBooks, eReaders and Tablets Discussion Night at 6:30 p.m. Tuesday, June 4.

This will be an interactive session where participants can learn how to download eBooks from the library, learn about other eBook sources and obtain more general help using one’s device.

The library also provides eReader and tablet assistance on a “drop-in” basis on Mondays from 9 a.m. to 6 p.m.

House, library summer hours

SUMNER — The Sumner Increase Robinson Neighborhood House and Library will be opening on June 4 and will open each Tuesday and Thursday throughout the summer. Hours will be 9 a.m.to noon.

The historical house is available for visits and the library has many research and family history materials for the area. There is a children’s book section and an occasional story time with Mrs. Tolman will be offered later.

Bethel Senior Citizens meeting

BETHEL — The Bethel Senior Citizens Club will meet and have lunch at 11 a.m. Wednesday, June 12, at the American Legion Hall, Vernon Street.

Veterans’ Advocate hours

PARIS — The Veterans’ Advocate will not be at the Maine Veterans Home the usual first Wednesday of the month but will be available from 9 a.m. to noon Wednesday, June 19.

VFW Ladies public supper

HARRISON — The VFW Ladies Auxiliary Post 9328 will sponsor a public supper from 5 to 6 p.m. Saturday, June 8, at the Harrison VFW Post on Waterford Road, Route 35.

The menu includes homemade baked beans, hot dogs, coleslaw, casseroles, salads, pies and beverages. Cost is $7 for adults, $3 for children.

The proceeds will benefit Honor Flight New England which transports senior veteran heroes to Washington, D.C., to visit and reflect at their memorials at no cost to the veteran.

Honey Bee Club workshop June 8

PARIS — Oxford Hills Honey Bee Club will hold a workshop at 1 p.m. Saturday, June 8, at the Oxford County Extension Center, 9 Olson Road.

Topic will be how to care for nucs, adding honey supers and getting ready for honey production. The public is welcome.
