FARMINGTON — Members of the Law Enforcement Torch Run for Special Olympics Maine are promoting awareness of individuals with intellectual disabilities while raising funds to support Special Olympics Maine programs.

This week, kicks off the annual Law Enforcement Torch Run, leading up to the statewide Summer Games at the University of Maine in Orono.

Local law enforcement will leave the Dunkin’ Donuts shop at the Mount Blue Shopping Plaza in Farmington starting at 8 a.m. Thursday, June 6, and run to Skowhegan.

People are asked to show their support by pledging donations during the run to support Special Olympics Maine while law enforcement officers make the 32-mile trek along Route 2. Maine State Police Trooper Matt Casavant will call WKTJ-FM 99.3 in Farmington throughout the day to update the progress of the run.

On Monday, Casavant visited the WKTJ-FM studios to answer questions about Special Olympics Maine and discuss upcoming events.

Farmington area Dunkin’ Donuts shops are selling paper torches to support Special Olympics Maine.
