BOOK NOOK

LEWISTON — Sun Journal reporter and local author Mark LaFlamme has joined a gang.

Well, sort of. His latest work is “Guys Named Jack,” a young adult novel inhabited by a group of teenagers who develop mysterious skills that arise out of nowhere. One finds he is an expert in the martial arts, and just when he needs it the most. One is a whiz with numbers, another can speak a dozen languages, and one Jack finds that he can design and build just about anything.

All over the country, these teens are becoming the brightest, most skilled young men on the planet. They’re confused. Baffled. Maybe even dangerous.

And they’re all named Jack.

LaFlamme’s seventh novel is a departure from the usual creepy crawlies that typically haunt his story lines. “Guys Named Jack” follows the ever-growing gang of Jacks as they band together to find out where their strange gifts have come from and what they are supposed to do with them. The answers that emerge are stranger than even a group of geniuses could have imagined.

Nonstop action. Gripping twists and harrowing turns make LaFlamme’s latest thriller the must-read summer novel.

“A great beach read,” said Maine author Meredith Kendall. “Or under the covers on a stormy night. Our own prolific LaFlamme gets better, more complicated, and more suspenseful. Check out the Jacks – each one has a special talent, but also a special weakness.”

“Guys Named Jack” is available in paperback or as an ebook at your favorite booksellers. For more information, visit www.marklaflamme.com/jacks.
