JAY — The Maine Forest Service has issued a summons to Franklin County Commissioner Gary McGrane of North Jay, charging him with burning without a permit.

The summons was issued last month after an April 22 fire at McGrane’s East Dixfield Road property got out of control and burned about an acre of land.

On Monday, McGrane made a $100 donation to the municipal Fire Rescue Department in appreciation for the department’s prompt response to the fire. McGrane did not have a burn permit, he said.

According to Art Lavoie, district forest ranger for the Forest Protection Division, McGrane is scheduled to appear in 12th District Court in Farmington on June 20.
