FARMINGTON — A Phillips woman accused of robbing a pharmacy in Kingfield on Monday appeared in Franklin County Superior Court on Wednesday and had bail set at $50,000 cash.

Michelle Wilcox, 27, of Phillips was already scheduled to make an initial appearance in the court Wednesday on a felony charge of theft by unauthorized taking or transfer based on the theft of a scooter and other items from Walmart in Farmington on April 18. Because of her record, Assistant District Attorney Joshua Robbins sought $5,000 cash bail on the theft charge from the Walmart incident.

He also requested $50,000 bail on the robbery charge from Monday because she is accused of handing the pharmacist a  note claiming she had a weapon.

Police say Wilcox walked into the Western Maine Pharmacy on Main Street about 4 p.m. Monday and handed a note to the clerk stating she had a weapon and wanted all the Suboxone in stock.

Investigators were led to the Toothaker Pond Road in Phillips where they found the vehicle suspected of being involved in the robbery. They also found Wilcox and arrested her on a felony charge of robbery and theft of the drugs.

Robbins said the Suboxone was found in a child’s safety seat. The note and all the drugs were recovered by police.

Attorney Christopher Berryment stood with Wilcox in court and asked for $300 cash bail with a Maine pretrial contract requiring a substance abuse program.

“There was no actual weapon involved,” he told the court.

He described Wilcox as an unemployed opiate addict who is cooperative.

Robbins recounted charges against her dating back to 2004 and said she is also facing a theft charge in Augusta.

He suggested the court needed to consider public safety.

“People with substance abuse problems do dangerous, stupid things without thinking about safety,” he said.

Justice Michaela Murphy set bail at $50,000 cash for both Franklin County charges.
