Golden Age Club meets June 11

AUBURN — Immaculate Heart of Mary Parish – Golden Age Club’s next meeting is Tuesday, June 11, at Sacred Heart Church.

Bring in a nice used item or two for the yearly Auction Swap.

Lakeside OES meets June 11

WALES – Lakeside Chapter 60, Order of the Eastern Star will meet at 7 p.m. Tuesday, June 11, at the Masonic/Grange Building, 322 Centre Road.

The chapter will honor The Flag, Fathers and Organist.

Refreshments will be provided by Arlene, Jordan and James Witherell.

The new District Deputy Grand Matron of District 4 will hold a School of Instruction from 9 a.m. to noon Saturday, June 22, at the Auburn Masonic Hall on Turner Street. All members are invited.

Legion Post 210 meets June 12

LEWISTON — American Legion Post 210 will meet at 7 p.m. Wednesday, June 12, at the Tim Hortons on Sabattus Street.

Dillingham DAR to meet June 12

NEW GLOUCESTER — Mary Dillingham Chapter, Daughters of the American Revolution, will meet at 11 a.m. Wednesday, June 12, at Opportunity Farm. A representative from Opportunity Farm will speak about some of the exciting new changes out there since the merger with Camden.

Bring ideas for next year’s program, and a bag lunch. Membership is open to any woman over age 18 who can prove direct lineage to a Revolutionary War Patriot or to someone who gave aid to the cause. Senior Resource Fair is June 13

LEWISTON — The Androscoggin County Elder Abuse Task Force will host their 4th annual Senior Resource Fair from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. Thursday, June 13, in recognition of World Elder Abuse Awareness Day.

The resource fair features a variety of speakers on topics including financial scams, community services and prosecution of crimes targeting seniors, as well as information tables from local organizations that work with seniors.

The fair is being held at St. Mary’s LePage Center. It is free and open to the public but registration is required. Contact Denise at 783-1475 to sign up.

A free lunch and morning refreshments will be provided and prizes will be raffled off.

Lymphedema workshop

LEWISTON — The Patrick Dempsey Center for Cancer Hope & Healing will offer a free lymphedema workshop for cancer patients, survivors and caregivers. “What is Lymphedema? Diagnosis and Treatment” will take place from 6 to 7 p.m. Monday, June 17, at the Dempsey Center, 29 Lowell St.

Lymphedema can be a side effect of certain cancers or treatments. The swelling ranges from mild, hardly noticeable, to extreme. Lorri Pelletier will help you to learn if you are at risk for lymphedema and discuss complications and treatments that can help reduce the swelling and discomfort.

Legion plans flag ceremony

SABATTUS — Sabattus American Legion, Harry Conway Post 135 will host a Flag Day Ceremony at 6:30 p.m. Friday, June 14, at the Legion Hall on Island Road.

Residents of Sabattus can bring their worn or unserviceable American flags to the Legion for dignified disposal. Earlier in the day a Flag Day program will be held at The Carrie Ricker School in Litchfield from 10 to 11 a.m.

Schools in RSU 4 are collecting worn and unserviceable flags at each school. Residents of Sabattus, Litchfield and Wales are welcome to drop off their American flags for dignified disposal. Members of the public are encouraged to attend both events.

Summer food service program

LEWISTON — The Lewiston School Nutrition Program will offer a summer food service program meal at no charge to children.

Breakfast and lunch will be served weekdays from June 19 through Aug. 16 at Kennedy Park. No meals will be served on July 4.

All meals must be eaten on the site. On rainy days, the meal will be served at the Multi-Purpose Center.

Free meals are provided to all preschool children to 18 years of age who are attending school.

Free wellness workshop

LEWISTON — The Patrick Dempsey Center for Cancer Hope & Healing will offer a free wellness workshop for cancer patients, survivors and caregivers. “Supporting Wellness Through the Relaxation Response” will take place from 6 to 7:30 p.m. Tuesday, June 18, at Parkview Adventist Medical Center.

Carey S. Clark, Ph.D., R.N. and assistant professor, University of Maine-Augusta, will teach self-care and holistic modalities that can help to facilitate mind-body healing which may reduce or eliminate the need for many medications and facilitate lasting changes in brain physiology and the body’s genetic profile that protect us from future illness and discomfort. Experience a relaxation exercise to facilitate your understanding of the mind-body healing process.
