AUBURN — A Sabattus man was indicted on 42 counts Wednesday, accused of molesting a girl over a period of four years beginning when she was 9.

Michael Gagnier, 34, of 20 High St., was indicted on 38 counts of gross sexual assault and charges of endangering the welfare of a child, aggravated unlawful furnishing of drugs, domestic assault and tampering with a witness.

According to a police affidavit, the girl told investigators Gagnier had abused her at least four times a month over the past four years.

The allegations came to light when the alleged victim told a youth worker at a Lewiston church that Gagnier had been sexually abusing her.

Police said in February that Gagnier agreed to meet investigators at the Department of Health and Human Services in Lewiston, where he admitted to abusing the girl. According to the affidavit, he blamed medication he takes for a thyroid issue. He also is accused of giving the medication to the victim.

Gagnier has remained at the Androscoggin County Jail in Auburn since his arrest.
