AUBURN — The Auburn-Lewiston YMCA is offering two certification training programs: Lifeguarding Certification Training and Babysitting Certification Training. Both courses are offered at the YMCA and are American Red Cross certifications. Upon completion, participants also earn CPR and First Aid certifications.

The American Red Cross Babysitting Training Certification Course is offered for kids 11-15 years old.  The course is Tuesday and Wednesday, June 18 and 19, from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. both days. In addition to learning about safety, responsibility and professionalism, participants will get hands-on experience observing and participating in Y childcare classes.

Upon completion of the course, students will also receive certification in CPR and first aid from the American Red Cross. Cost is $65 for members and $75 for community.

American Red Cross Lifeguard Training includes CPR, AED and First Aid Certifications. Registrants must be able to swim 75 yards and meet additional physical requirements to participate. The Lifeguarding Training will be July 11-14. Class meets Thursday and Friday, July 11 and 12, from 6 to 9 p.m. at the YMCA, as well as Saturday and Sunday, July 13 and 14, from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. at Camp Connor.

Participants must attend all classes and are required to swim 300 yards continuously and retrieve a weighted brick in a timed exercise. Cost for the program is $195 for Y members, $235 for the community.
