TOWNSHIP E — A Maine State Police bomb squad member examined a suspicious package found along the side of Route 17 on Saturday evening and disposed of it, Franklin County Sheriff’s deputies said.

The package is believed to be left from drilling and blasting ledges in that area, Lt. David Rackliffe said Monday.

The drilling and blasting project involved improving Route 17 and Height of Land Scenic Overlook, Chief Deputy Steven Lowell said.

Franklin County deputies contacted the squad after they responded to a citizen report of a suspicious package on the side of the road.
