LEWISTON — Mayor Robert Macdonald’s meeting with local landlords and representatives from Pine Tree Legal is set for Tuesday night.
The meeting is scheduled for 5 p.m. in Lewiston City Hall, according to an announcement from the city’s adminstrative office Monday.
Maconald announced his plan to bring the two groups together last month.
Pine Tree Legal provides free legal support for many downtown tenants facing eviction. Landlords complain that the aid group makes it difficult for them to get rid of problem tenants — the people who refuse to pay their rent, damage properties or are disruptive.
But Macdonald said many landlords try to act on their own behalf. They may miss legal deadlines or misfile documents, allowing problem tenants to stay in their buildings.
Tuesday’s meeting is designed to bring the two groups together.
