Have you asked permission to keep pigs? A resident of Mill Street in Auburn didn’t and was arrested for not complying with the rules of the Board of Health. The odor from the pen did not seem fragrant to the nostrils of the man’s son. A complaint was made to Dr. D. A. Barrell of the Auburn Board of Health. The man was notified that he must either transport the pigs to the suburbs or give them a bath daily. “Pigs is pigs,” he thought and he sent them away on a vacation. Hot on the trail of the foul smelling pigs, Dr. Barrell found them a few rods from their former habitation in a pen on South Main Street. The pigs’ owner said he had a permit granted by the South Main Street resident. It finally was found that the permit was kindly granted by a man who now lives at Oak Hill cemetery.

Surprised was the word used by police and rescue officials and Oxford Plains Speedway owner Michael Liberty to describe the lack of serious behavioral problems and injuries from Saturday’s heavy metal music fans, who numbered 40,000. The “Monsters of Rock” show featured Van Halen, The Scorpions, Kingdom Come, Metallica and Dokken. The Grateful Dead will play a two-day concert Saturday and Sunday. The shows, with 35,000 tickets for each, are a sellout.
