100 years ago, 1913
The long delayed material for Lewiston’s ornamental street lighting system arrived Sunday evening and it’s now a question of how soon the workmen can put the parts together. The special committees from the Lewiston city government went down to New York to straighten out the difficulty and the result was evident. The whole business was held waiting for thirteen arms which held the lamps. Chairman Russell of the committee took time Monday morning to see that work was started immediately upon getting the parts assembled and expects that inside of ten days the juice may be switched and the lights so shine.

50 years ago, 1963
The price of gasoline increased yesterday by five to seven cents a gallon at numerous Lewiston and Auburn filling stations. The largest price boost reported was the seven cents a gallon increase, from 22.9 to 29.9 cents, at an outer Minot Avenue station, while in town most stations was six cents a gallon to 28.9 cents. One of the Auburn stations, regarded as a price leader, said last night it was selling gasoline at the prevailing low price and was getting a large volume of trade. At this station, it was reported that the price would be boosted today.

25 years ago, 1988
The United Way of Androscoggin County announced Monday that it has won a third place bronze award in the United Way’s 31st National Communications Contest for its success in last June’s PAL Hop, which reunited local rock favorites popular in the 1960s. The hop was a weekly Friday event in the ’60s in which two to six rock bands would perform for crowds of up to 1,000 people. The reunion in June of 1987 included Terry and the Telestars, The Royal Knights, The Moon Dawgs and The Innkeepers.
