BANGOR — Maine police say a 26-year-old man from England has been charged with raping a 13-year-old girl he’d met online.
Nicholas Cheese of Oxford, England, has been charged with gross sexual assault and sexual exploitation of a minor. He was due in court Monday afternoon.
The Portland Press Herald says the girl’s father told the Penobscot County Sheriff’s Department that his daughter had been communicating online with Cheese for about a year before the man flew to Bangor and rented a hotel room.
Investigators from the sheriff’s department and Bangor Police Department charged Cheese after interviewing him in his hotel room.
Cheese was being held at the Penobscot County Jail. It was unclear if he’d hired a lawyer.
