NORWAY — A local man was charged Friday evening with assaulting a police officer who was trying to arrest him.

Craig J. Grover, 25, of Norway was also charged with failing to submit to arrest or detainment, disorderly conduct and endangering the welfare of a child, according to Officer Rob Federico Jr.’s affidavit.

According to the affidavit, Federico was approached by a friend of Grover’s, who had Grover and Grover’s nephew in his car. The friend said he received a call from Grover’s nephew saying Grover was drunk and made him walk in the breakdown lane of Lake Road. Arriving at the scene, the friend said he saw Grover pushing his nephew toward the road and the nephew was “almost hit by a car.”

Federico said in the affidavit that when he approached Grover to ask if he had been drinking, he became combative and was arrested.

Later, Federico said he found Grover attempting to unbuckle himself from the back seat of the cruiser, and when he and officer Mitch Shaw attempted to stop him, he kicked at Federico’s right hand, arm and thigh.

The officers eventually put him in leg restraints.

Grover was treated by PACE ambulance for a bump on his forehead and taken to Oxford County Jail in Paris.

Grover was still in custody Tuesday evening with bail set at $250. He is scheduled to appear in Oxford County Superior Court on Sept. 4.
