Korean War ceremony set for July 27
LEWISTON — The Elks Lodge No. 371 held a Flag Day celebration on June 16.
Michael Aube, exalted ruler, of Lewiston Elks served as master of ceremonies. Several music videos were presented along with a flag folding ceremony presented by the Daughters of the American Revolution.
Andrea Quaid, field representative for Congressman Michael Michaud, read a letter from Michaud, Sen. Susan Collins and Congresswoman Chellie Pingree. A new American flag previously flown over the United States Capitol was presented to the Lodge by Collins.
Franco American War Veterans Post 31 Commander Willie Danforth and Robert Levesque raised the new flag. Past Lewiston Mayor Larry Gilbert represented Lewiston citizens and Auburn City Councilor Leroy Walker represented Auburn citizens.
Several flags were carried by local veteran groups, Commander Paul Bernard of the William J. Rogers Post 153; Dan St. Pierre, Legion Baseball Liaison Post 153; Willie Danforth, Franco American War Veterans Commander; Robert Levesque; Normand Bussiere; and Maurice Marquis representing the Marine Corps League.
Local veterans groups are organizing for a 60th anniversary ceremony of the Korean War to be held at Veterans Memorial Park on Saturday, July 27. Anyone interested in participating can call Commander Willie Danforth at [email protected] or Commander Paul Bernard at [email protected].
