AUBURN — Second-grader Sommer Russell has been named the Androscoggin County winner of the Garelick Farms”Pure Happiness” design contest.

Russell is a student at the Fairview School. He will receive a $500 savings bond and $500 for the art department at Fairview School to use for art supplies, or any other education-related expenses.

Earlier this spring, Garelick Farms invited Maine students in grades K-6 to submit an illustration depicting what “pure happiness” means to them. Sixteen winners were selected from a pool of over 500 entrants.

Russell was chosen as the Androscoggin County winner for her submission, “Happiness to me is being outside with animals. These are two of my favorite things,” showing herself outside playing with cats and dogs.

“At Garelick Farms, we are passionate about encouraging happy, healthy lifestyles,” said Amy Godin, marketing director for Garelick Farms. “We received so many wonderful pieces of art and were incredibly impressed by all the talent and creativity we saw from these young students. We are thrilled that we could provide this opportunity for them to exercise their imaginations.”
