Trot for Autism is Saturday, July 27
LEWISTON — John F. Murphy Homes Inc. will host the third annual 5K Trot for Autism at 9 a.m. Saturday, July 27, starting at Geiger Elementary School, 601 College St.
The course is considered generally flat with one hill, and takes runners from the school out to Central Avenue, to Montello Street, College Street, Stetson Road and onto Hogan Road before turning back toward the school.
All proceeds benefit the Margaret Murphy Center for Children, which serves children and adolescents with autism and other developmental disabilities.

SHAREcenter yard sale Saturday, July 27
LEWISTON — SHAREcenter has so much inventory that it will hold another indoor yard sale to help reduce stock and raise money to meet its annual budget.
It will be held from 8 a.m. to 2 p.m. Saturday, July 27, at the mill unit at 36 Chestnut St. that also houses the new Loft apartments and Museum LA. Big signs will direct shoppers to the location.
SHAREcenter is a self-funded organization with sites in Auburn and Topsham. Its mission is to provide educational supplies to more than 55 schools and about 30 nonprofit organizations in Androscoggin County. SHAREcenter operates with reduce, reuse and recycle as key components. Local businesses and community members donate their unwanted inventory and household items and the center provides these items to members for use in classrooms and their programs.
Chicken barbecue at Durham church
DURHAM — There will be a chicken barbecue from 4:30 to 6 p.m. Saturday, Aug. 3, at the First Congregational Church of Durham UCC, 773 Royalsborough Road. Proceeds benefit the church.
Adults 13 years and up are $9, children 5 to 12 years are $3 and children 4 years and under are free. On the menus is barbecue chicken, choice of salads, rolls and beverage.
In addition there are frozen pies for sale. Ready to bake at $10 each, these pies will be available at the supper.
College planning workshop slated
LEWISTON — The Maine Educational Opportunity Center will host free workshops titled “Essentials of College Planning” for adults 19 and over at 10 a.m. Wednesdays, Aug. 7 and 14, at Lewiston CareerCenter, 5 Mollison Way.
The free interactive workshop outlines the four steps in the college process: admissions, financial aid, career planning and study skills. It lasts approximately two to three hours.

All MEOC services are free and include GED/SAT preparation; college planning, referrals/advocacy, career advising, financial aid advising, college admissions process and application fee waivers for qualified adults.
