SABATTUS —  The American Legion Harry Conway Post #135 recently met to install new officers.

Ron Caron, on behalf of 3rd District, was present to lead the installation. Caron, former post commander, was recently elected to the position of state historian for the Maine American Legion. He was assisted in the installation by Ray Lemieux, a member of American Legion Mechanic Falls Post 150, who acted as sergeant-at-arms.

This year’s Sabattus Legion officers are:

Tracey Rancourt is the newly appointed post commander. She is the first woman to command the post since it was established in December 1924. She is responsible for the overall operation of the post, including supervising the duties of all other officers and activities to ensure that they meet the highest standards and fulfill the tenants of The American Legion.

Dominic Santomongo is the newly appointed first vice commander. As such he is responsible for membership.

James Caron is the newly appointed second vice commander. Caron is responsible for assisting the post commander with all duties and is key with regard to patriotic observances and developing post activities.

Steve Caron is returning as adjutant, responsible for the administrative aspects of the post.

Joseph Michaud, is returning as finance officer, responsible for receiving and dispersing all funds.

James Rancourt is returning as chaplain, responsible for providing the spiritual leadership.

Donald Gosselin is returning as sergeant-at-arms, responsible for introducing all visiting comrades and guests to make sure they feel welcomed, and that the colors are properly maintained and displayed.

Gordon Smith is returning as post historian, responsible for compiling and preserving records.

Amedeo Lauria is the newly appointed Americanism officer, responsible for developing the spirit of Americanism among The American Legion and citizens and residents.
