Mekae Hyde of Lewiston has been selected by a fan vote to participate in the Futures Collegiate Baseball League all-star game Thursday.
Hyde, who will be a junior at Bates College in the fall, was one of four candidates chosen in an online poll.
The catcher will join seven teammates with the Old Orchard Beach Raging Tide as a member of Team New England. They will face Team Massachusetts in the game at Wahconah Park in Pittsfield, Mass.
Hyde ranks second in the team with both a .339 batting average and six stolen bases. He has a home run and six RBIs.
Prior to Bates, Hyde starred for both Lewiston High School and the Gayton and Pastime Club teams in American Legion baseball.
He played in a summer league in the Carolinas a year ago before catching on with the Raging Tide, which plays its home games at the refurbished Ballpark in OOB. It was home to the Triple-A Maine Guides and Maine Phillies from 1984 to 1988.
Other OOB players in the game are second baseman Aaron Wilson, outfielders Matt Pagano and Graham McIntire, first baseman Phil Sciretta and pitchers Ryan Otero, Tyler Pagmore and Nick Whitaker.
