Winners on July 23 were: first, Dick Allen and Richard Balian; second, Jeanine Kivus and Fred Letourneau; third, Larry Fortier and Roger Labbe.

Flea market, bake sale Aug. 3

NORTH WATERFORD — A flea market and bake sale will take place from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. Saturday, Aug. 3, at the Congregational Church, Route 35, across from Melby’s Market.

LOCKE MILLS — The annual Blueberry Festival will be held from 7:30 to 11 a.m. Saturday, Aug. 3, at the Locke Mills Union Church. There will be blueberries, blueberry pancakes, doughnuts, pies, baked goods and more.

VFW holding bottle drive

PARIS — The Floyd A. Harlow Jr. VFW Post 9787 will hold a bottle drive from 8:30 a.m. to 3:30 p.m. Saturday, Aug. 3, at 58 East Main St.

Eco-Home Tour of area houses

BETHEL — An innovative Eco-Home Tour of Bethel, Newry and Shelburne area homes will be held Sunday, Aug. 4, sponsored by the Mahoosuc Land Trust.

The tour route begins at the Land Trust office, 18 Mayville Road, Bethel, where tickets go on sale at 12:30 p.m. Tour homes will be open until 5:30 p.m. and include area homes whose owners have taken advantage of many varieties of alternative energy sources for space heating, lighting and domestic hot water heating.

Homeowners and energy experts will be on site to demonstrate uses of wind, solar, hydro and biomass as alternatives. The cost is $15 per adult and $5 for students.

LOCKE MILLS — An Old Time Slide Presentation by the Greenwood Historical Society will take place at 7 p.m. Sunday, Aug. 4, at the Locke Mills Town Hall.

Socrates Caféis Aug. 5

WATERFORD — A Socrates Café gathering will be held from 6:30 to 8:30 p.m. Monday, Aug. 5, at the Waterford Library. Meetings are held on the first Monday of each month.

The group offers a forum to discuss current topics and ideas in a warm, friendly atmosphere, where divergent views will be welcome. Coffee and light refreshments will be served.

The topic for the August meeting will be, “Should We Limit Growth?” The moderator will be Earl Morse.

Course: ‘Parenting with dignity’

OXFORD — G.E.A.R. Parent Network will hold a 9-hour parenting education course, “Parenting with Dignity,” from 6 to 8 p.m. from Sept. 4 through Jan. 29,Tri-County Mental Health Services, 143 Pottle Road.

The program was developed by Mac Bledsoe, father of a celebrated New England Patriots quarterback. It helps parents learn effective techniques for raising responsible, independent children.
