Benefit for Joshua Hewett

LEWISTON — A supper and dance to benefit Joshua Hewett of Lewiston will be held Friday, July 26, at the Elks Lodge on Lisbon Street.

Music will be provided by Stiff Kitty of North Conway, N.H.

A spaghetti supper will take place from 4 to 7 p.m., with a dance from 8 to 11. Meal will include spaghetti, garden salad, rolls, beverages and dessert.

Dinner and dance tickets are $7 for adults, $5 for children under 12. Tickets for the dance only are $5. There will be a cash bar, raffles and a 50/50.

Hewett has been suffering for the last three years from kidney disease, epilepsy and other organ malfunction.

Empire Grove Campmeeting

POLAND — The annual campmeeting of the Empire Grove Campmeeting Association will take place from July 27 through Aug. 4. The week-long event is open to the public.

The theme for the week is “In the Beginning: God’s Creation, Our World.” The preacher for the week is Rev. Dr. Stanley Tanner of Poland.

This year, participants will explore the first chapter of Genesis together. They will come to appreciate even more the natural beauty at Empire Grove, and will encourage one another in gratitude for and good stewardship of the natural resources created by God. Each day will focus on one of the days of creation.

Vesper services are held nightly at 7 p.m. in the chapel on the grounds of Empire Grove.

Chicken barbecue Aug. 3 in Durham

DURHAM — A chicken barbecue will be held from 4:30 to 6 p.m. Saturday, Aug. 3, at First Congregational Church of Durham UCC, 773 Royalsborough Road.

Proceeds benefit the church. Adults 13 years and up are $9, children 5 to 12 years are $3 and children 4 years and under are free.

On the menus is barbecue chicken, choice of salads, rolls and beverage. In addition there will be frozen pies for sale, ready to bake at $10 each.

Bluegrass music on Ricker lawn

POLAND — LeClaire’s Bluegrass Music will be performed at 1 p.m. Sunday, Aug. 4, on the lawn of the Ricker Memorial Library on Route 26. 

This is the eighth event in a series celebrating Ricker’s 50th anniversary year and it’s free. Bring a bag lunch or munchies and a lawn chair if desired.

If it rains, the event will be in the library community room. An elevator is available. For more information call 998-4390.
