FARMINGTON — A Farmington police officer was injured Saturday night while attempting to arrest a 16-year-old girl from Jay who refused to leave her boyfriend’s home.
Officer Bridgette Gilbert is seeking medical care for arm pain, police Chief Jack Peck said Monday.
Police were called at about 9 p.m. Saturday after the girl was told she had to leave, but she didn’t go, Peck said.
The girl was visiting her boyfriend, who lives with his grandmother on Morrison Hill Road. After his grandmother told the girl it was time for her to leave, she refused. A verbal fight escalated, and the police were called, Peck said.
Three Farmington officers, Gilbert, Sgt. Edward Hastings and Officer Justin Blais, responded and tried to talk to her. The girl’s mother also arrived, he said.
While attempting to arrest her, the girl fought Officer Gilbert, he said.
The girl was charged with criminal trespass and given a court summons, he said. She was later released by Joan Dawson, juvenile community corrections officer, to her mother with conditions that she obey all laws, not return to the residence on Morrison Hill Road and follow her mother’s recommendations for medical evaluation and treatment.
Police also made a referral to the Department of Human Services because of the girl’s one-month-old baby, he said.
