PORTLAND (AP) — A Maine man who was critically injured in a golf cart accident has died, and the crash remains under investigation by the Cumberland County Sheriff’s Department.

Deputies say 52-year-old John MacKay from Sanford was thrown from the golf cart operated by a Massachusetts man Saturday night in the town of Casco.

The golf cart operator, 59-year-old Gary Belinsky from Westford, Mass., was charged with drunken driving.

Additional charges could be filed after MacKay died Monday night. A sheriff’s department spokesman said investigators’ findings will be reviewed by the district attorney.

Belinsky was released Sunday morning on $300 bail from the Cumberland County Jail. The phone at his Massachusetts home rang unanswered on Tuesday.
