100 years ago, 1913
If one is interested in old furniture, the home of John A. Knight, 21 Knight Street, Auburn, will be of especial interest, as Mr. Knight is selling many of the family heirlooms, several of which are nearly 200 years old. Among the collection are a family watch, 178 years old; a Bible published in Oxford, England, in 1732, making it 181 years old; and a handsome English toilet table, inlaid and of the style of 1735. It is in perfect condition and has been in the family over 178 years, being brought to this county from England. There is a three-round bungalow table recently made by this old gentleman, himself. Mr. Knight is the brother of the late Aunt Ruth Knight, who died a short time ago, leaving him alone. The house was built when the first settlers came to Auburn, and still stands as it was constructed, although it was moved from its first location.

50 years ago, 1963
Rumors are about that a nudist colony will be established in Auburn, but no one seems to know exactly where, when or if the report is true. Reports have been circulating that the colony would be established in the area near the Auburn-Lewiston Municipal Airport, but Auburn city officials said yesterday that all they know about the matter was what they had heard in rumors.

25 years ago, 1988
Mid Maine Savings Bank and Hampton Co-operative Bank of New Hampshire have entered an agreement for the acquisition of Hampton by Mid Maine at a price of $53.50 per share. The transaction, valued at $10.7 million, is subject to regulatory approvals. As of June 30, Mid Maine had assets of approximately $114 million and operated from offices in Auburn, Lewiston, Lisbon and Mechanic Falls. Hampton’s assets total $91 million.
