LEWISTON — Fourteen Maine schools received $70,000 in grants through the Harvard Pilgrim Health Care Foundation’s Healthy School Food Champions program in June.

The schools were awarded the grant because of their proven commitment to high-quality food and the health of students. The funds will help schools purchase equipment and fresh, healthy produce and train staff in healthy food preparation. 

Maine grants are in partnership with Let’s Go!, a program of The Barbara Bush Children’s Hospital at Maine Medical Center. Local schools that received grants are:

— Auburn Public Schools, Auburn, $5,000

— RSU 10, Dixfield, $5,000

— SAD 15, Gray, $5,000

— Oxford/Androscoggin Let’s Go! School Nutrition Directors Workgroup, $5,000

— RSU 16, Poland, $5,000

— SAD 52,Greene, Leeds and Turner, $5,000
