100 years ago, 1913
WEEK-END GUESTS — The weekend just past delivered up a larger number of drunks than has been the average since the drout struck town. Seven were gleaned from the Lewiston city common, Saturday evening and one was invited to the lock-up in Auburn. The eight were put before the local police courts and the customary Lewiston and Auburn fines were imposed. The price of a spree in Auburn is $2 more than in Lewiston but on the other hand the demand is Lewiston is greater than in the sister city.

50 years ago, 1963
At least six Auburn firms will display their products at the 1963 Maine Products Show at the Central Maine Youth Center. Auburn firms which have already obtained space at the CMYC for the show Aug. 15 through 17 are Advance Heel Co., Clark Shoe Co., Dane-T-Bits Biscuit Co., Falcon Rule Co., Maine Shawnee Step Co. and Snow’s Inc. One of the interesting features of the show is expected to be an indication of the wide diversity of products manufactured in the Twin Cities. The Auburn Business Development Corp. reported this week that a local fundraising effort by the Lewiston-Auburn Area Chamber of Commerce to offset local expenses of the show is still in need of contributors.

25 years ago, 1988
City councilors approved the sale of more than four acres of land at the Auburn-Lewiston Municipal Airport on Tuesday in an effort to avoid a lawsuit. The land will be sold to Raymond Crowley for roughly $35,000, pending the Auburn City Council’s approval, marking the end of a 20-year dispute over an unofficial access road. Crowley already owns land adjacent to the parcel but has maintained an access road across the airport’s land for Pre-cast Structures Inc., without any kind of lease or right-of-way agreement, according to Airport Manager John L. Carey.
