MECHANIC FALLS — Auburn Manufacturing Inc., has won a $2.6 million contract from the U.S. Department of Defense to supply its AMI-SIL fabrics to the U.S. Navy for hot work protection during ship repair.
The company is a leading developer, manufacturer and marketer of textile products for extreme temperature industrial applications.
According to Kathie Leonard, president and CEO, AMI has won numerous Defense Department contracts for AMI-SIL fabrics and has supplied millions of yards through the years.
One of the key factors that helped AMI win the contract, Leonard said, is the fact that the company has maintained its U.S. manufacturing base. Another factor is that AMI-SIL fabrics are third-party certified and comply with ANSI/FM 4950, a performance-based standard for hot work fabrics, which is a requirement of the National Fire Protection Association standard for hot work.
AMI is certified as a Women’s Business Enterprise, a certification for women-owned businesses to qualify for contracts with governments and corporations seeking to diversify their suppliers of goods and services.
