LEWISTON – Friday, Aug. 9, local entertainer Nick Knowlton will perform at Prose Gallery in a limited-seating event.

“This show is really about my career and to see friends and people who have been with me along the way in the audience was heartwarming,” said Knowlton.

Knowlton first tasted success in the 1960s as the lead singer of Terry and the Telstars, one of a handful of local garage bands that made weekly PAL Hop dances at Lewiston’s City Hall  must-attend events. Ironically, those dances – attended by thousands – were coordinated by Eddie Boucher, who once had a recording studio on the upper floors of the building now occupied by Prose Gallery on Lisbon Street.

After the dances ended, the Telstars split up, Knowlton worked with a variety of bands in Lewiston and the Midwest U.S., having several brushes with near national success. Knowlton will share stories about how he was asked to audition as the lead singer for the band Cheap Trick or how he once turned down the opportunity to be the first to record “Dream Weaver” which went on to become a No. 1 song in the U.S.

“People ask if I ever kick myself for any of those decisions. It’s like the Frank Sinatra song goes, ‘Regrets, I have a few, but too few to mention.’ Well, I’ll mention the regrets during this show,” laughed Knowlton.

His greatest success came as part of the band Katahdin with a cover of the Beatles’ “Dear Prudence” which made the Billboard Charts. Knowlton will sing that song and many others that have had special meanings to him and his career.

In recent years, Knowlton has been known as a DJ for special events and for combining recorded and live music at shows in nightclubs and lounges. Late last year, he made the move to the Florida seniors entertainment circuit.

“Down there, they call me ‘kid’ and everybody is back home and in bed by 10 p.m.,” said Knowlton, who has been drawing large crowds in the Sunshine State and working more storytelling into some of his shows.

Tickets are $8 in advance or $10 at the door and may be reserved by calling 207-740-8800. The event is 21 and older and BYOB. Prose Gallery is located at 223 Lisbon Street.
