DEAR SUN SPOTS: When I had foot surgery I acquired a knee scooter that I used with great success to avoid bearing weight on the foot.

I am no longer able to use it and would like to find a home for it where it could be helpful to others.

I have called home health agencies, but they do not take medical equipment to lend or rent to their patients. This is an expensive piece of equipment in great condition. Is there any group or organization that would like to have it? — No Name, Lewiston

ANSWER: Sun Spots gets very excited when she gets a question for which she has the perfect answer. In this case, it’s the Medical Equipment To Go program at St. Mary’s Health Systems, Lewiston. METGO lends out equipment to those in need and would undoubtedly be pleased to have your scooter. Call 755-3030 and leave a message.

They will not take equipment that cannot be thoroughly sterilized, such as, for example, breast pumps.

DEAR SUN SPOTS: You have helped so many people (including myself in my quest for canceled postage stamps, during the course of which I’ve met some really nice people and made new friends) that I’m turning to you again with a couple more cries for help.

First, I have a dear friend who has been reminiscing about certain music she loved in the past, but the singer passed away years ago.

I’d love to know if anyone out there has either in cassette (not eight-track) tape or CD format music by a country western singer named Keith Whitley lying around in their stacks or cabinet that they no longer listen to and would consider parting with for a minimal amount.

I’d like to surprise my friend at Christmas. She lives outside the area so this letter shouldn’t give away my Secret Santa plans.

I would like to obtain a June 2004 issue of People magazine, if anyone has one in a stack somewhere. Also, I’d like any issue of Jazz Times. I’m not sure if it’s available in this area.

Also, I want an April 2004 issue of The Advocate, as I’m collecting any information I can find on my favorite smooth jazz musician, Dave Koz.

I may as well ask if anyone can recommend anywhere in Oxford, Androscoggin or Cumberland counties or near these areas where similar jazz music, especially the saxophone, may be played and one could go and listen.

Thank you so much for being there to turn to for help. — Virginia Labbe, 223 High St., Box 31, South Paris, ME 04281743-1678

ANSWER: The easiest way to find music by Keith Whitley — without using a computer — is to put a call into Bull Moose Music (Lewiston Mall, 20 East Ave., 784-6463, 9 a.m. to 9 p.m. Monday through Saturday, 10 a.m. to 7 p.m. Sunday). The staff there will search for the music you want and call you when they find it.

The magazines you seek may be available online or in the public library, although with the latter you’d have to settle for photocopies. Some magazines also have their back issues online for perusing.

Finally, Sun Spots thanks Virginia for supplying such complete contact information so readers can contact her.
