LEWISTON — A Mass of Christian Burial honoring the life of Barbara V. Goff was celebrated by the Rev. Marc Caron Monday morning at Holy Cross Church of the Prince of Peace Parish, following prayers at the Pinette & Lynch Funeral Home.

At the beginning of the Mass, Barbara’s three children, Daniel Goff, Jennifer Lynch and Ellen Scontras, as well as their spouses, Maureen, James and Christopher, draped Barbara’s casket with a white burial pall that signifies Barbara’s baptism into a new spiritual life with God. Barbara’s granddaughter, Briana Lynch, then placed a rosary from the Cathedral of Notre Dame in Paris on the casket. Barbara had treasured the rosary and had given it to her granddaughter.

The New Testament reading was then proclaimed by Barbara’s granddaughter, Katherine Scontras. The Prayer of the Faithful was recited by Barbara’s granddaughter, Kristina Scontras. The Offertory Gifts were brought to the altar by Barbara’s grandchildren, Constantine Scontras, Thomas Lynch and Briana Lynch.

Barbara’s son, Daniel Goff, shared words of remembrance at the conclusion of Mass that described his mother as the last surviving bridge of her generation, and that she would be sadly missed by all who knew and loved her.

Following a funeral procession to Mt. Hope Cemetery, the Rev. Caron recited graveside committal prayers. The pallbearers were Daniel Goff, Christopher and Constantine Scontras, as well as James and Thomas Lynch. At the conclusion of services, all were invited to a reception of fellowship at the Hilton Garden Inn in Auburn.
