DEAR SUN SPOTS: Where can I get a leather item embossed with initials? — J.L. via email

ANSWER: Sun Spots found one possibility: Maine Line Leather, 35 Beech St., Lewiston, 782-6622 or 877-782-6820, www.mainelineleather.com.

If anyone else provides that service, please email [email protected].

DEAR SUN SPOTS: I am writing in regard to your request for more seamstresses for your Rolodex.

My shop is called the Barefoot Seamstress. I work out of my home. I have no computer or email. I also don’t drive.

I do anything from alterations to zippers. I custom design, make new items, mend old ones and much more. I have a large selection of patterns and other items.

DEAR SUN SPOTS: In response to Angela and others who have yarn and fabric to spare, Loaves & Fishes and the Dominican Sisters would gladly take this off your hands.

Just email Sister Lucille at [email protected]. Thank you. — C. Therriault, [email protected]

DEAR SUN SPOTS: I would like to be put in contact with Angela (Aug. 6), who has fabric and yarn to give away. The kids I work with are sewing and could really use the fabric and yarn. Thanks! — Deborah Lewis, Tree Street Youth, Lewiston, 357-8300

ANSWER: Sun Spots doesn’t act as intermediary, but hopefully Angela will see your letter.

DEAR SUN SPOTS: I saw that you didn’t have many names of people and organizations of that collect yarn. I am part of Maine’s Hats for Hope Initiative. We make and collect hats, scarves, gloves and mittens and give them to the homeless and working poor throughout Maine through shelters, outreach centers, food pantries and soup kitchens.

We are always accepting yarn as well as newly made or purchased winter accessories for all ages.

Items can be sent to Maine’s Hats for Hope Initiative, P.O. Box 72, South Paris, ME 04281. We also have a Facebook page for anyone wanting to know what we are currently doing: www.facebook.com/pages/Maines-Hats-For-Hope-Initiative/387641657968785

Thank you. — Sarah, [email protected]

DEAR SUN SPOTS: Several months ago, there was a letter in Sun Spots about an organization that offered help with home repairs. It was mostly for winterizing.

I sent in an application and someone was sent to my home. Several areas were checked to be repaired, but I have not heard anything from them since.

I have lost their contact information, so I am not able to check on the status of the work to be done. Do you remember the letter I am referring to?

Thank you for any help you may be able to offer. — No Name, Lewiston

ANSWER: Sun Spots guesses you are referring to Rebuilding Together Lewiston-Auburn, a group of volunteers who get together and help their neighbors. It’s possible they may just not have been able to coordinate their activities to set a day for your repairs. Rachel at River Cities Professional Center, 195 Center St., Auburn, 783-7300, is the contact provided, if that is the group you seek.
