LISBON FALLS — The next meeting of the Lisbon Historical Society will be held at 7 p.m. Wednesday, Aug. 14, at the MTM Center, 18 School St. Doors open at 6:30 p.m.
The program will be a presentation and book signing by Eugene Elcik, author of “Shiloh, the Deception of a Cult.” The program is free and open to the public.
Elcik will present his newest work of fiction based on true events that took place at the Shiloh colony in Durham a century or more ago. This latest book imagines how the people of this religious movement were misled by their self-appointed leaders.
Elcik, a Lisbon native, says that as he grew up he noticed his surroundings and “how others interacted with each other and all that encompassed them.”
Holding a wide variety of roles, Elcik has been a civilian recreational naval officer, an adjunct college instructor and an appraiser. He says that his affection for Maine is where his heart is, and has helped bring his stories to life.
The author will have copies of the book for sale, and will be available to sign them after his talk.
Refreshments will be served following the program.
Parking and entrance is in the rear of the building. For more information contact Dorothy Smith at 353-8510 or [email protected].
