100 years ago, 1913
H.F. Crocker, representing the National Survey Co. of Portland was in Lewiston, Wednesday making preliminary arrangements for getting out an accurate and up-to-date map of Lewiston and Auburn. These cities have grown rapidly since the last map was issued and a work of this nature should be appreciated. The city engineers of both cities will cooperate with the survey people and a first-class map should result. The leading businessmen and merchants are being seen by Mr. Crocker to learn if the project meets with their approval.

50 years ago, 1963
Several industrial prospects look exceptionally good at this time, according to Auburn City Manager Woodbury E. Brackett who in addition to his duties as the administrative head of the city also directs the industrial development program. However, Brackett said yesterday that Auburn lost a prospective new industry recently because of newspaper publicity given the fact a shoe company might move from another Maine community to Auburn. Instead, Brackett said, he was informed that it now plans to move to a Maine community more to the north of this area.

25 years ago, 1988
Auburn city councilors Wednesday stopped short of prohibiting football practice on a new multipurpose field at Edward Little High School, but instead asked school officials to limit playing time on the turf and look for alternate fields. “We don’t feel that we have any other options or places to go,” ELHS Athletic Director John White said. “You cannot have any of these activities on any field and have it look like your front lawn.” The council closed the workshop session by telling White to limit play on the $280,000 field. “I think he’s got the feelings of the council, that we don’t want this field torn out,” Mayor Harry W. Woodard Jr. said.
