JACKMAN (AP) — U.S. Customs and Border Protection is on the lookout for young, healthy and fit Maine residents in need of a job.

CBP officers are hosting several recruiting events this month, beginning Friday at the Stratton library and continuing at the Carrabassett Valley library and the Skowhegan Career Center next week. They’re also holding an open house at Jackman and Coburn Gore ports of entry the week of Aug. 19

Officers work to ensure terrorists don’t enter the U.S., inspect travelers and enforce customs, immigration and agriculture laws. Applicants must pass fitness and medical exams and have to be under the age of 37 at the time they’re referred for selection.

A CBP spokeswoman says it can be challenging to fill Maine positions because officers often seek work in larger ports.
