AUBURN — An anonymous $75,000 gift to St. Dominic Academy could help bolster the school’s music program or pay for student scholarships.

In a written statement, Principal Donald Fournier said the donor was not a grandparent or parent of any past or present Saint Dominic Academy student, nor was the donor a former student.

“The donor believes in our mission and of all the potential worthy causes they could have supported, they were drawn to ours,” Fournier said. “We have an obligation to use these funds, to the best of our abilities, on projects that will have that lasting impact.”

The donor personally knew The Rev. François Drouin, a former pastor of Ss. Peter and Paul who is credited with founding Saint Dominic Academy.

The donor delivered the check in person to the Gracelawn Avenue School on July 31. The donor did not place elaborate restrictions on the money’s use but said it should have a lasting impact on the school.

“We are fortunate that the donor showed both great generosity and great flexibility with regard to its use,” Fournier said. “We hope to engage the school’s board in thoughtful discussion on how best to utilize this gift to improve the quality of the educational and spiritual experience at Saint Dominic Academy.”
